For an additional fee, HEAP Health Literacy offers materials for professional development courses that include presentations, supplemental materials, discussion boards, and homework assignments to support teachers' professional development.
The purpose of the distance learning course materials are to provide states with efficient, cost-effective and customizable options for training teachers in skills-based health education and assessment.
The online course materials contain 6 modules on a variety of standards-based instruction and assessment topics including:
- Understanding the National Health Education Standards
- Aligning instruction and assessment
- Practice scoring student work with HEAP rubrics
- Developing performance tasks
States and districts can modify and adapt the modules to meet their specific needs. Modules can be utilized with existing learning management systems. For an additional fee, HEAP Health Literacy also offers use of the Sakai Open Source Learning Management System as needed.
